Polina Semionova gets a flower named after her.
An exceptional new variety of a rare ornamental plant from the family of Rehmannia will be named ‘Polina S.’ after the former principal of Berlin State Ballet and famous prima ballerina Polina Semionova. The ceremony will be taking place in the Botanic Garden Berlin on August 30, 2013. The dancer will be returning to Berlin for the ceremony.
Responsible for this new breed is Mr. Lüder Nobbmann, presidium member of the German Gardening Association 1822 e.V. whom it took over 10 years to successfully grow this particular plant. Responsible for inspiration on the namesake is a friend, Mrs. Marlene Krug, who is a fan and has been a supporter of the ballerina since her time in Berlin:
"How she’s aspiring, her floatation and the joy that she’s giving with her dancing, all that is felt by the gardening fancier as well, looking upon the fascinating evolution of this flower."
Tbh, I’m not sure whether I find this ridiculous or adorable. Maybe it’s both. :3
